Argentina records some of the world's highest Andes hantavirus (ANDV) case loads outside of outbreak clusters. Endemic zones include Patagonia, Neuquén, and Río Negro provinces, where the long-tailed colilargo mouse (Oligoryzomys longicaudatus) is the primary reservoir. The 2026 MV Hondius cluster is directly linked to the southern Argentine port of Ushuaia, making Argentina central to the current outbreak investigation.
